When I Get There by Ben Chilcote
This song was written for the August Songwriting Challenge for the WCS Songwriting Club. Honestly, I waited until the last minute and didn’t have a lot of time so it feels like a rough draft for me! It definitely has potential 🙂  The song is basically about being frustrated with this life.  Dealing with sin, dealing with fear, pain, and hardship.  It’s a song about hope.  Real hope.  The hope for those who are in Christ – who have a perfect eternity that is being preserved for them.  Its not a hope that takes away the hard things of life, but a hope that empowers us to endure it.

When I Get There
Ben Chilcote
These eyes
See both dark and light
How will I get through this life
This mouth
Speaks both truth and lies
How will I get through this night
Don’t know how long but
This night will be ending
I will hold on
Hope is waiting for me
When I get there
Day consumes the night
When I get there
Darkness turns to light
When I get there
Only joyful cries
Goodbye to goodbyes
When I get there
These feet
Stumble through the night
How will I get through this life
These eyes
Are fixed on Jesus face
To run the race and fight the fight
Don’t know – how long but
This night will be ending
I will – hold on
Hope is waiting for me
CHORUS
Hold on to the truth we claim
Hold on to the only Name
Hold on through the race we run
With eyes on the Faithful One
Death’s not the end
This night will be ending
Hold on – Hold on
Hope is waiting for me
CHORUS
Ben, I just have to say again, thank you. For everything that melded together to make another worship song. Since first hearing you my perspective and understanding of music of faith has grown. A song has the power to change us. This song is perfect. I hope you don’t edit it too much. God bless you young man of God. Love love love it.
